McCarthy Tétrault launches Latin American office

McCarthy Tétrault is proud to announce the launch of its Latin American office, marking an important milestone in the evolution of our presence in the region, particularly in our Global Metals and Mining practice.
The new office, to be located in Santiago, Chile, formalizes our Firm’s established presence in Latin America and strengthens our ability to support clients operating across the region and around the world.
Building on a presence established over more than five years advising global clients and working closely with leading local firms, the office will not practice local law. We will continue to complement jurisdiction-specific expertise with McCarthy Tétrault's internationally recognized experience in complex cross-border matters particularly in mining, infrastructure, power and energy.
Shawn Doyle has been appointed Managing Partner, Latin America. Based in Chile, Shawn has extensive experience across the region, is fluent in Spanish and has advised Canadian-headquartered, Latin American-headquartered and other multinational companies on significant international transactions and investments. He has represented the Firm in the region as Principal Latin America, for the past several years.
“For many years, we have worked alongside clients and leading law firms across Latin America. Establishing a permanent presence in the region reflects the depth of those relationships and our confidence in Latin America's enduring importance to our clients. Our Latin American office strengthens our ability to bring together industry experience, market insight and cross-border legal expertise in support of our clients' ambitions,” said Sunil Kapur, CEO.
"The launch of our Latin American office is the natural evolution of a presence we have built over many years advising clients operating across the region and working closely with leading local firms throughout the region," said Karl Tabbakh, National Leader, Markets and International Business. "Latin America continues to be a critical market for many of our clients, particularly in our market-leading metals and mining practice. Establishing a permanent presence strengthens our ability to support complex cross-border matters while continuing to work alongside the region's leading law firms."
Latin America plays a vital role in global investment and economic development, particularly in sectors such as mining, energy, power and infrastructure. The region is also a natural link for Latin America-based issuers and resource companies seeking access to Canadian capital markets.
"Latin America has been central to our clients and our work for many years," Shawn said. "Our clients continue to see significant opportunities across the region, but they also face increasingly complex legal, commercial and geopolitical considerations. Establishing a permanent presence in Latin America allows us to work even more closely with clients on their most important cross-border matters while continuing to collaborate with leading local counsel throughout the region."
