McCarthy Tétrault builds on Calgary momentum with addition of regulatory partner Elyse Bouey

McCarthy Tétrault is pleased to welcome Elyse Bouey as a Partner in our Business Law Group in Calgary.
Joining us from another national business law firm, Elyse is an energy regulatory lawyer whose practice also focuses on environmental, administrative and Indigenous law. She advises proponents, operators and investors across the full lifecycle of major projects — from securing approvals through compliance proceedings, hearings and litigation.
Her experience spans a broad range of sectors, including electricity transmission and distribution, conventional and renewable power generation, upstream oil and gas, pipelines, petrochemicals, critical minerals and mining. Her work spans project approvals, commercial transactions, tolls and tariffs, compliance proceedings, greenhouse gas emissions, environmental assessments and litigation, utility crossings, land rights acquisition, and public and Indigenous consultation.
She has appeared before a wide range of federal, provincial and territorial regulators, as well as all levels of court in Alberta, and has acted on several of the largest energy developments in Canada.
“Elyse strengthens our ability to support clients pursuing major energy, power and infrastructure projects, particularly those requiring sophisticated regulatory strategy and meaningful Indigenous engagement,” said Matthew Cumming, Partner and Co-Leader of our Business Law Group. “Her arrival reflects our continued investment in the Calgary market and our national platform.”
“Elyse is exactly the kind of lawyer our clients and our team value — technically excellent, commercially minded and deeply committed to the long-term success of the projects she advises on,” added Richard O'Doherty, Partner and Co-Leader of our Business Law Group. “We're delighted to welcome her to the Firm.”
“Elyse brings a sophisticated regulatory practice that enhances our ability to guide clients through complex approval processes and stakeholder environments,” said Brett Anderson, our Regional Managing Partner for Alberta. “She is a tremendous addition to our Calgary team, and her deep roots in the province's power, energy and resources sector will resonate with clients right across Alberta.”
“I'm excited to join McCarthy Tétrault and to collaborate with colleagues across the Firm in support of clients navigating complex regulatory and project-related challenges,” said Elyse. “The Firm's national platform and depth across energy, infrastructure and Indigenous law make it an ideal place to continue serving clients on their most significant mandates.”
Elyse is admitted to the Alberta Bar (2018). She received her JD from the University of Calgary, Faculty of Law, and a BA (Honours) from McGill University. She is recognized by Best Lawyers: Ones to Watch in Canada for Aboriginal Law and Indigenous Practice, and for Environmental Law.
