M&A dealmaker Peter Danner joins McCarthy Tétrault’s Calgary office as Partner

We are pleased to welcome Peter Danner to McCarthy Tétrault as a Partner in our M&A Group in Calgary. Peter is a leading corporate and transactional lawyer focused on energy, mining, and infrastructure projects, advising on acquisitions and divestitures, strategic investments, private equity transactions, joint ventures and complex commercial arrangements.
Peter’s practice regularly supports operating companies and investors on significant transactions in Western Canada and beyond. He advises clients on a broad range of transactions across the energy sector, including in oil and gas exploration and production, midstream infrastructure, refining, retail and other energy-related industries. Peter also counsels clients in the mining and metals industry on transactional matters, including offtake, royalty and streaming arrangements. Peter is also a leading lawyer in Indigenous economic partnership transactions, including those supported by Canadian federal and provincial government loan guarantee programs.
“Joining us from another national business law firm, Peter is a highly respected deal lawyer in Calgary’s energy market, with deep experience across complex transactions, joint ventures and private equity matters,” said Matthew Cumming, Partner and Co-Leader of our Business Law Group. “His arrival strengthens our ability to support clients pursuing major energy and infrastructure initiatives, including projects where Indigenous participation is central to the mandate.”
“Peter brings a practice that aligns closely with our clients’ priorities in Western Canada and across our national platform,” added Richard O’Doherty, Partner and Co-Leader of our Business Law Group. “His experience enhances our bench strength in Calgary and positions us to compete for and deliver on the sophisticated mandates our clients are bringing to market.”
Having worked on some of the most significant recent transactions in Western Canada and nationally, Peter is widely regarded for his counsel and is recognized by Chambers and Partners, Lexpert, Best Lawyers, The Legal 500 and IFLR.
“I’m excited to join McCarthy Tétrault and to contribute to a platform with the national reach and collaborative approach clients need for complex energy and infrastructure transactions,” Peter said. “I look forward to working with colleagues across the Firm to support clients on their most important mandates.”
