Environmental Law Lawyer

McCarthy Tétrault is looking for a lawyer to join its Environmental Team within its Business Law Group. The person may be based in Montréal or in Québec City.
The candidate must be a member in good standing of the Barreau du Québec and ideally have between 5 and 10 years of specific experience in environmental law. The candidate will be called upon to intervene in a wide variety of cases, including :
- Analysis and interpretation of environmental laws and regulations applicable to clients' activities;
- Identification of required permits and authorizations and assistance in obtaining them for industrial, renewable energy or infrastructure projects;
- Conducting environmental due diligence as part of commercial transactions, mergers and acquisitions, or financing;
- Negotiating and drafting contractual clauses dealing with environmental issues as part of real estate transactions, partnerships or investment projects;
- Dealing with climate change issues, including compliance with Quebec's cap-and-trade system for greenhouse gas emissions;
- Representation before administrative bodies (ex. Bureau de réexamen du MELCCFP, Commission d'accès à l'information);
- Ad hoc support in complex environmental litigation files conducted by our litigation team.
The selected person will work as part of an experienced team based in the Quebec Region. The person will have the opportunity to collaborate on complex, varied and often high-profile projects.
